The Monash University Malaysia was opened in 1998. This campus is located within the Bandar Sunway township in Malaysia. It is the first foreign university in Malaysia. In the early 1990s, Monash University established a partnership with Sunway University. Under this arrangement, Malaysian students would enrol and spend their first year in Malaysia, before transferring to one of Monash's Australian campuses to complete their degree.  Monash University Malaysia is one of several Monash University campus and centres outside the State of Victoria in Australia. Monash University also has a centre in Prato, Italy, a campus in South Africa and a research academy in India. This specially is established in 1998, Monash Malaysia is the third largest campus of Australia's largest university and the first foreign university campus in Malaysia that operates in partnership with the Sunway Education Group.

A self-accrediting university, Monash University Malaysia is currently home to approximately has over 8,400 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 78 different countries, meaning that international students have plenty of opportunity to experience the multicultural campus on offer. There are also 58 student organisations to join, including 21 different sports teams. As one of the eight Monash University campuses, the Malaysian campus is subject to Monash University for all matters related to academic development, teaching and support. The institution is ranked in the top 60 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2021 and is also number 29 on the Times Higher Education list of the World’s Most International Universities 2020.

There are various facilities that have been provided at Monash University Malaysia. With various facilities on and off campus it will facilitate and provide comfort to lecturers and students. Among the facilities are library such as a teaching spaces, group discussion room, quiet Zone, multipurpose learning spaces, library computer a view of computer workstation area and express terminals. This campus also has a wireless access, video conferencing room, cafeteria, lecture hall, lobby, atrium area, foyer, gym and swimming pool. This university also provides on campus and off campus accommodation in order to accommodate the number of students nationwide and also provide comfort for students to stay either on campus or off campus. The off campus is Indah Villa and Lagoon View. An accommodation is Sunway Monash Residence, Sun-U Residence and Sun- U Department.
